April 04, 2002 :: "I will not throu"
My new obsession is Found Magazine, an Ann Arbor-based magazine of found photos, notes and audio. The notes fascinate me. Here are a few of my favorites. [Links will pop up in new windows]
Don't forget the Ypsilanti All-Starz. I still have to send in the money for a copy of that tape. "DAMN!!!"
You know... that "please," note reminded me of the US Consul office in Bombay.
Notes like that always fascinate me. All of the ones you shared gave me a chuckle, but I literally laughed out loud at the "Please" note. Overdose on the quotation marks, and love the spelling of "toliet". Looks prettier, actually.
You may enjoy "In Passing", a site that records a Berkeley student's overheard snippets of conversation. Occasionally found notes or grafitti(including bathroom stall grafitti) are included.
Also: you all saw this article in Wired, right? Okay. Add your two cents
He said. She said. There’s 5 Comments
Davy Rothbart, the publisher, stopped by Chicago a few months ago to flog his magazine at a local zine store. He looks like Adam Sandler with big ol' sideburns. It's kinda scary, actually.

When I'd gone for my visa, I visited the ladie's room, & to my shock & horror, found a big note above the cistern saying "Please, do NOT squat on the WC. Please sit like you would on a chair."
[No kidding, I swear!]
All this was written in Hindi & Gujarati. [Indian languages]
When I asked the cleaning lady, why they'd put up these ludicrous boards, she said in their experience most old Gujarati ladies would perch up & squat on the toilet bowl, leaving dirty footprints on the lid.
Eww. Just eww.

It's at www.inpassing.org, and the comments reacting to the quotes are worth reading.
