Not all comics started out in their present form. Editors make massive changes based on current trends and marketability. For example, Spiderman may have started out like this:
dude. Bitten by a Greek Masseuse? That's a sacerilege to all things good and holy.
Clearly, there are worse ways to have a Greek massuese transmit his super-abilities onto you.
With a name like Peter Parker, no wonder the boys were trying to bite him.
I knew this post would turn around and bite me in the ass.
