February 28, 2002 :: "More Google freaks"
I always think Ive seen everything on search requests. But people keep arriving here through some really weird ways:
bah, i wouldn't worry too much about it: someone arrived on my site though a search on "pictures of fruits and veggies in vagina", another one through "my friends mom is a whore look at her"... The one I take offense at is "Pictures of Mental Patients"... ;-P
"icons of stain boy." I can't imagine thinking that phrase until this very second. Now we have to ask ourselves: Why?
Somehow I don’t think it’s an answer we really want to hear.
Where, damn it? Where does everybody get their site statistics? Their referrer logs? Is it some secret service google provides? I've never known, and it seems like the universe is dead set on rubbing it in lately--three different sites I visit daily recently posted "strange search requests." It's like you guys are in some secret society that won't let me in.
Yes. It’s a secret society we belong to. Tiny Gnomes from Zurich feed us the informatio- uh oh. I’ve said too much.
Thanks a bunch.
Damn I'm stupid. I just found their FAQ. Thanks again, though.
Dave, we were warned about mentionning the gnomes... now we're in for trouble! Add your two cents

Actually we just use a very cool, free statistics too called Sitemeter.
You’ve probably seen a cryptic little box on a lot of blogs that has rainbow colors going through it [actually the HTML color grid]. That’s the Sitemeter stats box. I just have a counter displaying at the bottom of my site. If YOU click on it, it will take you to the Sitemeter homepage.
If I click on it, it will show me the last 100 visitors, what site, link or search term got them here, Operating systems, browsers etc. Very nice for a free tool.

So, now that I am unencumbered by the knowledge that my web site isn't hip enough to have referrer logs, I've got a further question: do I need the counter on every single page, or just on my main index? I couldn't find this information anywhere at Sitemeter.
