December 29, 2001 :: "You know what you need?"

You need some “special” music. Stuff no one bought you for Christmas. Like, Telly Savalas singing Loving Feeling and Andy Griffith doing a hot rendition of House of the Rising Sun. Or let’s really bring down the house with Pat Boone singing Holy Diver!

I can hear your adrenaline pumping from here. “Where Dave? Where? Don’t tease us so!”

Fret not my little pleasure pumpkins. Here’s where you can hear all these fabled treasures and more. Free.

YEAH! Shades of "Golden Throats" and "Golden Throats 2"... I'm /so/ there. How could you not love William Shatner bellowing, "LUCY! IN! THE! SKY! WITH! DIAMONDS!"?

Oh, and thanks for the site test, Dave!

Yeah Shatner’s version scares the crap out of most people. He’s not even singing; he’s doing some overly dramatic recreation:
[Starts off sadly] “Picture yourself... on a boat... in a river...
[He’s near tears at this point] With tangerine trees! And marmelade skies!...
Somebody calls you...
[voice suddenly sounds old and decrepit] you answer... quite slowly...
[almost sobbing] A girl! With kaleidoscope eyes!

I’m guessing acid wasn’t kind to dear, old William.

It reminds me of something I read in a newsgroup a few years ago. Someone had this great plan of his to exchange the please-hold-music in a help-desk to only play William Shattners version of Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds 24 hours a day.

About the Hall of Shame: someone should compile them and issue a cd. The perfect gift for future christmases adn birthdays.

my little pleasure pumpkins - the combination of those words just may be the scariest thing I've ever seen on this site.
maggie :: 29 December, 2001 08:27 PM

Uh huh. I expect to see that phrase used in the next FBK newsletter Maggie.

Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds is nothing -- have any of you seen Shatner do "Rocket Man"? God, my friend Stefan has a video of that, it's hilarious.
Dagny :: 29 December, 2001 08:50 PM

Rocket man? No... but you could always post a mp3, hmmmm? Is that on Golden Throats 2? I don't think I've seen that one. I'll trade you a Shatner Rocket Man for a Leonard Nimoy "Highly Illogical"... and I'll throw in "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Earth" as an added bonus. Woo hoo!

  This album is just too good.

"Rocket Man" video is, not too surprisingly, online. Try this URL in your RealMedia player:
