December 13, 2001 :: "Keeping up with the Joneses"

Phineas J rockin' the hiz-ouseIt’s like you people have a birthday everyday. Now it’s Phineas turn. He’s 4,016 years young.

To continue my tradition of meeting bloggers for dinner and drinks*, I met the notorious Phineas X. Jones last night for Thai dinner and later for coffee at the infamous freak-watching Starbucks, where we were joined by Mistress Tamity.

Unfortunately, it rained buckets all night so freak watching was at a minimum [although Phineas did get to witness the Gimpy Chris and the Dean in action]. Thus far, the Dean has eluded capture by both camera and law enforcement.

*Not counting SXSW, so far the blogger list includes Min Jung Kim, Amy, Scott, Joe Jenett, Phineas X. Jones and the lovely Tamity. If you will be in the Detroit area, send me an email and I’ll try to hook up.

He said. She said. There’s 19 Comments

is it me or there are a lot of bloggers in the detroit area?! by the way, send my congrats to the birthday boy, he needs spanking!!! maybe by the lovely Min Jung Kim, Amy or Tamity? Hell, it is my birthday too, I need a spanking!!!

Spankings are by appointment only.
Too bad I'm not in Michigan *now* but hell, I'd probably be grounded anyway.

*sigh*
Min Jung :: 13 December, 2001 02:47 AM

dave, same goes if you're ever in london... ;-)
clive :: 13 December, 2001 05:03 AM

Amy and I are often up in the Dee-troit area. Someday we will have to introduce you to our own Freak, so you can watch him, too.
jima :: 13 December, 2001 07:46 AM

Not that this really needs to be said, but of course I second Clive's invitation of a night out if you ever make it to London.

Mostly, cos that's more likely to happen that me getting to Detroit, but never say never (so start preparing your escape plan now).

:)

I'm working on a speed boat... speed boat escape along the Thames river, to London City Airport, onto a Learjet fuelled and ready to fly... heading straight back to Detroit.

That's if and only if he manages to escape the restaurant.

Hmmm. London sounds fun. [scratches chin...] So far I only have plans next year for Austin (SXSW), NYC and possibly Ireland if time permits.
Davezilla :: 13 December, 2001 09:07 AM

how quickly can you get to the airport? i only ever have layovers in detroit. not that it would kill you to go to chicago. as if.
jocelyn :: 13 December, 2001 09:57 AM

I am totally going to Chicago, but that’s so close it almost doesn’t count as a trip.

I am out of whack today,
Dave in your many years of working in a Drafting shop, did you ever see anyone cut off his or her fingers? I did today and I on instinct brought the severd finger part to the Medical, poor guy was in sugery for 3 hours, and even poor me because I had to touch it, ewwww. gross. Damn flashbacks, Oh the horror.
J_dogg43 :: 13 December, 2001 01:50 PM

I was never in a drafting shop, but my thumb got severed when I was a printer. Yes, it's been reattached.
Davezilla :: 13 December, 2001 02:34 PM

To the same place?
jima :: 13 December, 2001 02:43 PM

I'm here. But I'm shy.
tracy :: 13 December, 2001 03:16 PM

i forgot to comment on the photo. when i have met up with phineas, he is always in black, and never ever has displayed his obvious ability to get down with his bad self, as illustrated above.
jocelyn :: 13 December, 2001 05:08 PM

On the occasion of the photograph, I believe he was entertaining the peoples at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC, for some sort of post-September 11th charity event. The Phineas really only gets down for charity. He's not just giving it away on the street corner to every player and hustler.
jima :: 13 December, 2001 05:21 PM

Yeah Tracy! Are you ever in this area?
Davezilla :: 13 December, 2001 06:52 PM

I don't venture north of the city all that much... .

But I was in Royal Oak a few weeks ago... Saw the famed freakwatching Starbucks from afar. I generally do my freak watching in the greater Ann Arbor area. ;)
tracy :: 13 December, 2001 08:12 PM

There's always Toronto, you know - we have a veritable multitude of bloggers. And freaks. I know where to find those, too. :)
Natalie :: 13 December, 2001 09:45 PM

tian if we spank you, can we use a lead bar? you're getting really mean lately. it makes me afraid to read the comments anymore. you're not funny.
