November 12, 2001 :: "10:20 Aiplane crash update"

From CNN.com

NEW YORK (CNN) -- An American Airlines jet with 255 people on board crashed Monday in a residential neighborhood after taking off from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.

American Airlines Flight 587 went down at 9:17 a.m. EST in the Rockways section of the New York City borough of Queens about five miles from Kennedy Airport. Mayor Rudy Giuliani said there were two crash sites -- one where the plane landed and another where an engine landed. Both were about six blocks from a school building. The school was closed for the Veterans Day holiday.

The plane was scheduled to leave at 8:40 a.m. EST, but takeoff was delayed until 9:14 a.m. EST

Residents reported hearing engine noises and saw one wing on fire. Others reported seeing the engine fall off. The mayor has comfirmed that the engine landed in one spot and the rest of the plane in another. This sort of points more toward a “normal” plane crash more than a terrorist act.

The fact that it is two months and a day later and in New York is creepy though.

I'm watching this live on british tv news. all pointers so far appear to say that this is a tragic accident rather than a terrorist attack.

allegedly a wing was on fire before the crash.

I'm going back to the tv.

Terrorism or accident? I'd say that the fact that we even have to THINK that it might be terrorism, gives points to Osama & Co. Will we ever NOT think of a disaster as being terrorist-related?

When the FBI says that there was an explosion INSIDE the plane, and an employee from GE Aircraft posts a comment on my site [see next posting] saying no way it was engine failure, then yeah. We are being lied to. This probably is another terrorist attack.

My opinion, FWIW:

"American " Airlines
New York, Again
One week before the busiest travel holiday of the year
Collateral damage on the ground, again.

That is an awful lot of coincidence to stomach here.

We'll be told it was an "accident." Truth will not be an issue.

It's frightening when we're "hoping" that a plane crash is an accident, rather than a terrorist act. I'd rather it hadn't happened at all... how's that for wishful thinking?

Remember, folks: correlation does not imply causation.
